I spent a very large portion of this weekend with headphones glued to my ears, listening to and downloading tons of new trance music. I tried to do a little composing, but I’m suffering from perfectionism. The sounds I’m generating sounds nothing like what I want it to, so I get turned off. Maybe I should take the hint and accept that I’m just a music appreciator, not a creator. At least not a creator of what I want to be creating.
Anyway, I have made some interesting musical discoveries this weekend, mostly in discovering differnet projects produced by the same people. For instance, Above and Beyond, Dirt Devils, Rollerball, and P.O.S. are the same set of people, and started the Anjunabeats label together. I was already aware that Oceanlab was another one of their projects. I enjoy figuring out the puzzle pieces go together, that this guy worked with this other group under this name, etc.
As I was unpacking some boxes my mom and dad brought down last weekend, I came upon my highschool and college yearbooks. I had a lot of fun looking through the highschool ones, seeing people I had long forgotten, reading comments from close friends and relative aquaintances. The whole thing put me in this funky, nostalgic and somewhat sad mood. The college yearbooks weren’t as good, and I kept running into pictures of DalRae which really didn’t help lighten my mood. I found a bunch of pictures I didn’t remember seeing before. Turns outs I’m in my freshman yearbook 3 times, in just random candid shots.
Yesterday Tanya, Stacey, her kids, and I went to see [[grahame:movies/elf Elf]]. It was prety funny, although the concept ran a bit thin towards the middle of the movie. The movie revolves around a human, who was raised as an elf in the north pole, bumbling his way through New York. We had some very good pizza afterwards, at the place next to the theatre. A nice break in my otherwise uneventful weekend.
I’m toying with the idea of heading back up to DC next weekend. Armin van Buuren is playing at Glow, at Club Insomnia. It is a bit silly considering I was just there last weekend, but he doesn’t come to the US all that often. This is part of his [[grahame:music/76 76]] promotional tour. This whole club thing man, I don’t know. I guess there’s no other way to get the music than to attend with all the boozed out dancer freaks. Could be worse I suppose.
Cass, Tim, Kevin (and his old friend TJ), and I went out to dinner at an Indian restaurant in Chapel Hill tonight. This was the one event that got me out of my apartment this weekend. I absolutely love Indian food, and it was good. Bryan called tonight to try and set something up for tonight or tomorrow. It looks like he, Shana, and I will go out for dinner tomorrow. Funny that I just saw him last weekend in DC.
The house sale is still looking pretty good. This second buyer seems to have all his ducks in a row. The only real factor left is the appraisal and lender’s acceptance, which should be fine. The market has come up in the last month or so while we were waiting for the first buyer, so there should be more comparable properties now. Here’s hoping at least, floating all of my balances waiting for the final check is becoming somewhat of a juggling act. Yeah, I know, my bad for assuming I’d have the money last month, live and learn.
