Feeling considerably better than I did mid week. No real flu developed, so it was probably just a medium grade cold that just started off especially badly. My energy and appetite are normal now, just a bit of congestion — aren’t you all glad to know?
Friday went out to dinner with Jordan, and his mom and her new fianceé. They were in town visiting him at Duke for parents weekend. We went to Bakus, a tapas restaurant in Durham that I knew. Greg, Jordan’s new roommate went too. It was some good food too, but I already new that. Heheh.
Jordan told me about a sale at REI the next moring, and invited me along. I’ve needed some new camping gear for ages, so it was a good opportunity. I found out that REI is a co-op, which gives its members back 8-10% of their yearly purchases. So, I became a lifetime member for $15, which I think will prove money well spent. Their sale was on imperfect items, but none of them really worked for me. I did get a great deal on some good hiking boots, which I’m very happy about. Very excited to put them to use and I haven’t been camping in ages.
I saw [[imdb:0391198 The Grudge]] on Saturday with Andrew and some of his friends. It was pretty good, and reminded me a lot of [[imdb:0298130 The Ring]], although they weren’t done by the same director as I had previously thought. While I thought The Ring was a better movie in most respects, I’m considerably more freaked out by The Grudge, mostly as an after-effect. During the movie I saw nearly every jump/scare coming, and was mostly laughing at them. But it is a haunted house story, and those are pretty universal — I mean, I live in a house. To feel scared by The Ring I would have needed to watch some mysterious and freaky video. Anyway, I’ve spent the past couple of nights a little bit jumpy. Ridiculous and embarassing I know, but true.
