Busy Quiet Weeks [Journal]

The party’s over. I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, ever since I got back from Alaska really. I know it’s very common to feel a sort of anti-climax at the end of a trip, especially a really good one. So I’m sure that’s part of my current mood, but there’s something more I think. Despite all my wonderful friends, family, and pets, when I’m alone I really feel it: lonely. *sigh* Yes, that’s right, you read it here first: the dude who lives alone feels lonely. Details to follow…

I’ve spent the past two weeks hanging out with various friends, partially I think to help chase away my low spirits. I took Sandra and Andrew out to dinner in return for pet-sitting. They, as always, assured me that it was unnecessary but I feel like it’s the least I can do and I’m happy to. I’m just so lucky to have people that I like and trust that are so open to the idea. I also helped Ian move in a new bed into his new house, as well as a washer and dryer. He’s got a nice place, I predict there will be some good parties goin down there. And I went to a nice party at Deborah’s.

But the highlight had to be this past Saturday night. Cuz it was Carolina Rollergirls time once again and this time at a much larger venue at the state fairgrounds. I met up with {Andrew} sitting trackside and that’s where we were for the entire bout. Bigger venue, bigger crowd, bigger spectacle, better experience. And we won decisively. Lots of other friends were there as well, mostly from all y’all, and a few of us went out to eat afterwards.

Then it was on to the after party at Kings. I’d never been before, but it’s not bad. Sort of a little craphole actually, but it’s got all the fixins you could want. Lots of rollergirls and fans celebrating, singing karaoke, drinking, dancing, getting leg tablelamps (a la Christmas Story), and just having fun. I ran into a few neighbors there as well — turns out the guy two doors up from me works there as a barkeep. Small world.

I spent the night mostly on the sidelines, talking to people I knew, but I did also make a point to talk to some of my favourite rollergirls. I headed out with Andrew and Sandra at about 1:30, not long after someone starting spinning some really decent house music. I was tempted to stay and enjoy but I was pretty worn out so I retired for the evening. Following that raucous night I spent most of the day just hanging out, sort of a standard boring Sunday.
