Ice Age [Movies]

I guess I expected [[imdb:0268380 Ice Age]] to be of the same calibre as your standard Pixar picture, but unfortunately this seems to have set the bar a bit too high. This is a purely computed generated movie, but that is where the parallel’s end.

The basic plot should have been enough to carry it, but somehow the execution falls flat. There were cute moments, like the asinine Dodo birds, and the (complete invented, but cute) Scrat character, but otherwise it was so simple there wasn’t much of reedeming value left.

Visually, the movie is quite stunning. Snow and ice are mediums CGI films haven’t really pursued before, and it does work quite well. The technical staff behind this production seemed to definitely have a mastery of their systems.

The actors are all very talented, but don’t manage to bring all that much to this movie. And there are a bunch of decent actors involved, although the minimal and/or short roles don’t let them shine. Ray Ramamo, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary get the most play, and they’re decent.

All in all, a funny, cute, and decent picture. Perhaps I set my expectations to high going into it, a side-effect of thinking the trailer was funny. Go marketing!
