Wifester [Random]

Found Wifester, an amusing Friendster parody, on the Boing Boing Blog. Make sure you click around the pages a bit, there are some cute hidden jokes. Worth a minute of fun at least.

I had a very lovely evening with Jeff and Katie and Sarah and Cole. It was a mixed mood, somewhat melancholic, yet also upbeat. Everyone seemed sad that I was leaving town, but the adults were happy for me and the kids were happy to have me there at that moment. I took my Sharper Image robby-robot over with me, as I surely won’t get much use out of it. Cole and Sarah immediately started fighting over it, so I guess it should be considered a success!

Katie drove the point home, several times, that I would forever be the kids’ uncle. I was very happy to hear that, divorces can create all sorts of strange dynamics. But as Katie pointed out, I’ve been a part of their life as an Uncle, not as their Aunt’s husband. And my own honourary “uncles” have also been a large part of my life, along with the blood relatives of course.

I expected to get more choked up tonight than I did, especially when reading them their bedtime stories, or tucking the little ones into their beds. But no emotions really got that heavy. I was just really grateful to be able to say goodbye. I’m looking forward to be able to know how they grow up, something I was bummed about having to miss. And I’m touched that I seemed to have made such an impact on their lives, I never expected to matter to them.

I got to play “The Fence Game”, in which both players use real bamboo training foils and whack away at each other. Once something is hit, it cannot be used any longer. Cole and Sarah both killed me in no time. Also, both kids have been watching and enjoying Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is very impressive for a 4 and 7 year old!! Cole is apparently quoting it in pre-school, which I find hilarious. “I shall taunt you a second time”

Katie gave me a two pages of photos from Easter, with me running and playing with Cole. They are great pictures, I’ll put them up when Katie gets them up on Ofoto.

Marcus, the mover, will be coming over late tomorrow morning. I find it a bit unprofessional that I had to call him to follow-up, after he didn’t call me back. He barely even apologized. Oh well.

I’ve been lusting after a camera phone for a few weeks now, inspired by the idea of a moblog (mobile blog). The idea of snapping pictures as a sort of journal, and being able to upload them to my site while I’m still in the field is very appealing. Leoville pointed me to the Nokia 3650, which runs Symbian OS with bluetooth, plus a camera. I looked up my activation date on my current phone, which is 09/28/02, so I’ve got to keep my phone for a month. I’ll just wait to get into moblogging I guess. Besides, to get the free 3650 with AT&T, I’d have to commit to 2 years of service. I should be an intelligent shopper, I hope I can just keep the discipline.
