Crash Boom [Journal]

4:36 am, something loud just woke me up. What was that? I hear nothing now, but some little part of my brain is telling me that I just heard something a moment earlier. And then I hear it, the rolling echoes of a thunder clap. This is somewhat of a relief, as the noise is within the acceptable parameters of personal security and safety. But it still takes a few moments for my heart beat to return to normal. Maybe this will teach me not to sleep with the window open.

I fade back into light slumber, when a new noise tickles my auditory sense. A quiet rustling perhaps, leaves shuffling about in a gentle breeze? Or is that… crap, rain. I jump from my bed at the thought of all my belongings, that normally live in laundry room, melting in the early morning downpour. I manage to rescue all of the cardboard, rustable metal, and paper products from the destructive precipitation. Just what I wanted to be doing at 04:43.

Anyway, that was my morning, and quite fun it was. Otherwise, a fairly boring day yesterday. I did some more packing, and rigorously avoided painting the laundry room. I watched very bizarre movie by Bill Plympton, the guy who does the animated guy pushing a button and getting his face blown in by a cannon, or his face being quite distorted and mutilated. It was called [[imdb:0119346 I Married a Strange Person!]] and I just found it randomly on HBO.

In other news, the movers quoted me $3,400 as the “not to exceed” estimate. I found this very high, and have requested a quote from United Van Lines as well, though I haven’t heard from them yet. I may get stuck with the expensive guys though. And I finally got my Linksys 802.11g/DSL router yesterday, so I was able to retire and pack up my aging linux server. It is much quieter in the office now, due to the fewer drive motors and fans constantly humming.
