This is a great car, I’ve owned it for 5 years and it has done me well. I am moving back east, and have decided it isn’t worth it to ship it. There is a small dent in front of the driver’s side door, from the previous owner as well as a crack in the plastic housing on the driver’s side-mirror. Also, the key-in-ignition beeper sounds when the car is off an the driver’s door is open, regardless of the key. Minor issues to me.

Bowling for Columbine [Movies]

I’m not quite sure what to make of [[imdb:0310793 Bowling for Columbine]]. Is Michael Moore a whining snivelling dork with activist tendencies, or is he a daring and bold film maker?

Being part of the left myself, I didn’t find all that many wakeup calls. Perhaps this is because I saw this film on DVD, so I’ve encountered cultural reverberations from others who have already seen the film. Either way, I could see how the film could be an eye-opener for some people.

I thought the main theme of the movie, that Americans live in a fear-driven culture, is bang on. Mass media has created a society that is afraid of itself. And the natural endgame of such a mentality is a very creepy, Orwellian civilization where we’ve given away all of our Constitutional rights in the name of safety and security.

I’m not sure that I really like Michael Moore. A few times I worried that he was about to take the interviews too far and actually offend or directly attack the interviewee. Thankfully this didn’t happen, and generally tne interviewees were restrained as well. This removed the typical good vs. bad type debates that America has come to love and expect in its entertainment, but I appreciated being left to understand the various perspectives on their own merit.

The Columbine incident happened while I was attending college, and apparently I missed most of the graphic TV coverage. I was very disturbed while watching the surveillance tapes of these two disturbed kids. I actually got quite upset, like I did watching the events of 9/11 unfold. I can’t imagine what those kids experienced—no one should have to live through something like that.

Overall, a nice introspection into the current American Psyche. I loved the animated history of the white man. Man, it makes me want to move to Canada or New Zealand even more. If the Patriot Act II hits, I might just do that.
