I’m a big Tom Clancy fan, so I was eager to see [[imdb:0164184 The Sum of All Fears]]. It was a definite departure from the past Tom Clancy adaptations, from the casting to the production quality.
And overall, I think it was a success although this is on one of Clancy’s books that I haven’t read, so I can’t comment on its accuracy. Ben Affleck does a decent job as the young Jack Ryan, I think I actually like him better than Harrison Ford. Other recurring roles also have new faces, Liev Shrieber as Clark, and a new Kathy Muller (Ryan).
The one issue with this book is that it was written after many of the others, yet it occurs before most of them but we never heard of the catastrophic events before. I mean, come on, Baltimore isn’t that small of a city!
Anyway, a generally entertaining movie. Lots of great actors in the cast, including James Cromwell, Alan Bates, Morgan Freeman, and Ron Rifkin. It was fun to see a new face on the Clancy regulars.
