First Offer [Journal]

Yesterday, DalRae and I were sorting through and dividing our file folders, when we got a call from an agent. He wanted to show the house, so we scrambled to cleanup all the temporary mess from the all the papers and foldres.

DalRae left, they showed up, and I ducked out the front door. It is very strange to have nothing to do, yet be forced to stay just outside of your home. So, I picked up trash from the side of the house, although I tired of this quickly. After around 15 minutes, I made called my friend Greg in NC to chat, talk about my moving out there, and just shoot the breeze. The potential buyer wandered outside and engaged me about a few things, DSL, the garage, etc. She seemed very interested, probably spending close to half an hour looking around.

Today, we had our first open house, so I had to get the house ready. It wasn’t much work though, the house has basically been ready to show for days. I think we’ve actually had one or two showings already. I left the house and got a smog check, which I’ll need if I want to sell the car. Then I met up with Rodrigo to catch up, hang out, and basically say our goodbyes. He’s been a good friend out here, although we haven’t really seen all that much of each other when we’re not working together (twice now). I’m gonna miss him, he’s fun.

I got a call from Mark as he was wrapping up our open house. He said that there were about 75 groups of people that came through, although this sounds incredibly high to me. If each group was only a couple, that’s 150 people Anyway, the other good news that he had to report was that the woman who viewed the house last night made an offer!! And it was for a little more than we were asking, although it was a 0% down (no deposit) offer, and she had no loan prequalification letter. So, some not-so-great variables to consider with that offer. But still, an interested party. WOOT! Now I have to fill out my disclosure paperwork.

Also, I got a call about my car this morning. The guy I talked to lives near the Oregon border, so he sent his local brother Fong by to take a look. I liked Fong, although he was trying to make a good deal for his brother of course. I stuck close to my asking price, and basically, the brother bailed on the car over the phone. Fong seemed rather annoyed, I think with his brother for having him come the 2 hours down to look at the car and not buy it. Oh well. He had some good advice about marrying an asian girl next time, so he got a shock when I told him that my ex was asian. He countered that I needed to meet an asian who was raised “asian”, with asian values. Someone I could “smack around and would still stay married to me”. Sheesh, great values there, eh? Heheh He was a character.

So, now I’m not sure what to do with my car. After talking to my dad, I’m thinking I might just ship it after all. If I have a car out there then I won’t need to rent for very long and it will give me a safety net to take my time buying the next car with. Plus, I can trade it in, albeit for less than I’d sell it for, when I do buy a car.

And man, is it hot here Yesterday and today have been like mid-90s. I have no A/C, btw, so it is fairly miserable. At least it usually cools down at night. I can’t wait to have my new air conditioned apartment. :)

Also, as I just remembered, I just put out a big load of stuff for Salvation Army: the outdoor table and chairs, my old computer desk, my papasan chair, the electric lawnmower, the old pushmower, and the cordless string trimmer. Quite a load, I really hope they take it all, we’ll see.

I want to call Tony and Sylvia, my ex-inlaws, tomorrow and hopefully go see them. They were good to me, and I’d like to say a proper goodbye. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to see them though, this week is gonna fly by! My fellow engineers from work and I are going out on Tuesday night for a goodbye bash of sorts. And Friday I’m staying home to meet the movers, and prepare to fly the next day. Wait a second, where am I going to sleep after they move the bed!? Aww crap.

And to add yet another addendum, in a pattern that is definitely forming as this is being added more than an hour after this entry was first posted, the house is now on realtor.com. Check it out. Hopefully the pictures will be up by tomorrow, they’d better.
