New Tarheelian [Journal]

I’m still not sure what the heck tarheel really means, or where the expression comes from. It seems to be distinct to North Carolina.

Everything seems to have gone off without a hitch. My flights were on time, [[grahame:journal/altatrace Alta Trace]] still remembered me and had my apartment ready and waiting, my power and phone seem to be hooked up, and I found my bosses house with relative ease. All in all a good, albeit hectic day. I’m looking forward to crashing tonight.

I’m writing from my “work” computer, which I brought with me on the plane. I got it setup with VPN in a few minutes, the only stumbling block being that I had to FTP the software from one machine to this server and then back to my box. This was because I couldn’t login to the company’s domain controller… Blech, its all behind me, I can read my work email again, using the new method which I will be using from now on. Not sure why I went into so much detail about that, pretty dull.

As I’m now on the East Coast again, I switched the blog’s timezone back to east coast time. Of course, this makes it appear that all previous entries were written 3 hours later than they were. Maybe someday I’ll get around to patching this deficiency, allowing the story to set its own timezone instead of system-wide. Sounds like a future plugin to me! Of course, then I’d have to retrofit all of my stories with a meta-timezone: tag, which isn’t so great either.

Ok, well, I’m off for now. It feels so nice to be settled, have all of the hard bits behind me. Now I just have to unpack once all my stuff arrives, finish up selling the house, buy a car, and start exploring! Sounds like fun.
