Reason 3.0 [Comp Music, Computing]

Reason 3.0 was realeased in March. I’ve been waiting for this software for about a year. For those of you not familiar with Reason, its a virtual music studio in a box. You can load up as many synths, effects, drum machines, samplers, etc as you want. Your only real limitation is your computer’s CPU and memory capacity. I’m a big fan of Reason, I’ve had a cracked version of 2.5 for a while and promised myself I’d buy it when 3.0 came out.

My copy just arrived from Sweden a few days ago, and its pretty damn cool. I’m not sure it is really worth a major release number change though. The mastering suite is kickass, I applied it to some old songs and the difference was quite noticable.

The combinator idea is really awesome—you can basically build mini racks that have their own input and output. So you can have 8 synths wih their own effects routing (even their own mixer), and then send that combined “unit” midi data and have them all play at once. I haven’t played that much, but I think this will let me get rid of some of the flatness I used to get frustrated with. I can probably build a super saw now, and of course save it as a preset. Wicked.

Flickr [Blog]

I’m really digging the Flickr service. Check out my photos, I’ve added some more, and now link to it from my front page.

If you know me, let me know and I can invite you to be a “contact”, which will give you better access.

April Catchup [Journal]

Well, its been just over a month since I last posted, I missed the entire month of April. I don’t understand my moods sometimes, I just didn’t feel like writing anything.

But lots of things have been going on. Yesterday I helped Cass get hooked up with Sirius radio. She’d been telling me she wanted to for like a year, so we finally got that done. It turned into a bigger deal when she added a new TV to the list. She ended up with a fairly heavy 32 incher. Ooooofff.

I saw [[imdb:0371724 Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy]] on Friday. That was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in ages. I tried to get into the BBC show but just couldn’t get over the cheesiness. The movie does it right, and then the comedy just shines through. I’m pretty sure I will be buying it on DVD. I went to see it with Andrew’s circle of friends. I happened to run into Beth and Jennifer at Moe’s during the week, and they invited me. That was nice, I feel like I’m a part of the group now, not just sort of an appendage.

Last weekend {Andrew} got married. It was a great ceremony, probably the best one I’ve ever witnessed. The officiant shared their dating history, which I thought was a very clever way of including everyone in attendance. It was a real cultural mismash, with belly dancers, rennies, computer geeks, you name it.

My parents visiting with me around the end of March, on their way to and from a week in Hilton Head. Lou stopped by on the way down as well. It was nice to see them.
