Reason 3.0 was realeased in March. I’ve been waiting for this software for about a year. For those of you not familiar with Reason, its a virtual music studio in a box. You can load up as many synths, effects, drum machines, samplers, etc as you want. Your only real limitation is your computer’s CPU and memory capacity. I’m a big fan of Reason, I’ve had a cracked version of 2.5 for a while and promised myself I’d buy it when 3.0 came out.
My copy just arrived from Sweden a few days ago, and its pretty damn cool. I’m not sure it is really worth a major release number change though. The mastering suite is kickass, I applied it to some old songs and the difference was quite noticable.
The combinator idea is really awesome—you can basically build mini racks that have their own input and output. So you can have 8 synths wih their own effects routing (even their own mixer), and then send that combined “unit” midi data and have them all play at once. I haven’t played that much, but I think this will let me get rid of some of the flatness I used to get frustrated with. I can probably build a super saw now, and of course save it as a preset. Wicked.

Grahame, how can I get a cracked version of the Reason 2.5 software? I can’t afford the “genuine” deal, and I like to try my hand at producing a couple of songs of written.
Thanks

Well, I don’t want to be too direct, but there are probably plenty of sources available. I found my copy of 2.5 through Kazaa, although that was a few years ago and I have no idea what the quality is like on there. I bet you can find some BitTorrent’s of the software. I suggest googling for Reason and BitTorrent. The harder part is downloading the 2 CDs worth of samples and patches. Finding a patched version of the executable will probably be easier.
Good luck, but try to support the production of good software when you are able. Propellerheads put a lot of good money into creating such a fantastic production, and they wouldn’t have been able if no one had paid them!

BTW, for a cheaper solution, checkout Fruity Loops Studio, http://www.flstudio.com/. They have a decent Trial version, and its only $149 US. It has a different way of thinking about music, more ‘tracker’ based than sequenced, but its still an alternative.
You may also be able to find an old copy of Buzz2, which was completely free but very no-frills. The author discountinued it when Fruity Loops came on the market, years ago now.
Those are the only cheaper options I can think of. Music production software has never been cheap, not even the consumer level stuff we’re talking about. Professional stuff gets you up into the $1,000 range almost immediately.

Hi I have a quick question.
I downloaded a copy of reason 2.5 but having trouble installing. When it asks for orkester disc, the copy i burned willnot be recognised. Is there anyway I can patch this myself and get it to run. I seem to remember with reason 1 it was possible to do so.
