Sumptra [Music, My Music]

I’ve been playing around with my new music software lately, and have actually come up with something half-decent. I don’t I think I have the patience to fix the areas I can see need fixing, so I’m just going to post it here.

Sumptra is a nonesense word, Sumatra because of the pentatonic influence and Sumptuous because it gets lush at its peak). I like the slow vibe of it, with the build up bringing in glitchy effects and layers.

The start has an ambient feel that I’m pretty proud of. In fact the first 16 bars are what I consider the coolest. The melody is fairly boring, and the song doesn’t develop, and the “breakdown” doesn’t really do its job. Anyway, not bad for a few hours work.

Transthetic [Music, My Music]

Well, I’ve just wrapped up a new song, probably took me 6-7 hours all told, over the past 4 nights. It starts in a trancey vein, but the main melody doesn’t really let it stay that way. Overall I’m pretty pleased with it, although its split genre makes it an odd one—it is a “dance” tune, but I can’t imagine ever dancing to it. It definitely isn’t what I set out to create.

FYI: the title is a nonsense word, but I thought it had an interesting ring to it. And it was made completely within Reason 2.5. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it. MP3 (7.49 Mb) 512

November 2004 Mix [Music, My Music]

Well, I’m actually posting this on 07/21/05, but I mixed in in 11/18/04. I uploaded the mp3 around the same time, but totally forgot to link to it from my blog. Sheesh.

I’m pretty pleased with this mix, it has been on a CDR in my car ever since I recorded it. While there are, of course, errors which still make me cringe, I have to admit that they aren’t all that bad. Most importantly, all the songs are top notch, and the mix blends together fairly well. The only track selection I’d like to take back would be #8, it just isn’t that good really, nor does it fit. This is pretty much just good melodic trance, nothing too hard or harsh in here.

Budding 2004 Mix [My Music]

Alright, so, I’m still double thinking the exposition of this mangled wreck to anyone else, but I suppose its good to have it recorded for posterity and later amusement (at least I hope). This was actually mixed live with vinyl on turntables, unlike [[grahame:music/mymusic/firstmix last time]] which was created with software. My beat-matching consistency leaves a lot to be desired. Now maybe people with an untrained ear could miss some of these screwups, but so what—I’m aspiring to be like Armin, so let me be :)

First Mix [My Music]

Well trance fans, I’ve done it. I made my first mix ever, using a bit of software called DSS DJ. The mix isn’t perfect, I messed up some phrase matching, and forced some songs together that probably didn’t belong together. But, for a first attempt, with almost no prep-work, I think it came out pretty well. I should note that this was mixed live, in realtime, as DSS DJ emulates dual turntables. MP3 (103.7 Mb) 73:45
