Chinol [Music, My Music]

Well, here’s my latest creation. I still find it odd how I can have so many other ideas ages ago that are still half-baked, yet this was only a few work-nights of work. Chinol is a nice departure from my trancy sort of stuff I’ve been producing of late. It came together when I re-realized that rhythm doesn’t have to be limited to percussion. I think the best part of this song comes from the rhythmic syncopation & interaction between the drums, bass, and high-pitch “ice block” hits. And just having the kick accent on beat three was something new. It is weird, it’s not like I didn’t know this stuff, but I had fallen into some serious ruts I guess.

Trinichus [Music, My Music]

I won’t go into the details of this one too much, but here’s my latest creation. The background pads make it somewhat symphonic in terms of sound and instrumentation. Of course, the composition behind it is still fairly simple and repetitious, revolving around a single 8 bar phrase.

No idea what the name means, I needed something and it looks neat. Enjoy Trinichus.

Insanity [Music, My Music]

Ok, here’s a funny little tune I just whipped up a an hour or so. It’s actually a decent little progressive track that I put a silly and crazy sample on top of, sort of ruining the otherwise nice instruments. I should have totally taken this song in a different direction, mais c’est la vie.

My co-workers will recognize the sample, but I shouldn’t divulge anymore than that. Warning, whoever you are, there is some adult language in the song. Enjoy the silliness.

Run Away [Music, My Music]

Well, it has been a while since I’ve put any new music up here. I have quite a number of songs in progress, some even started back in July, so it is funny that I’m uploading Run Away, which I only started 6 days ago. But I won’t try to understand how this music creation thing works, this one just happened to hold my interest to its completion. I do think it had something to do with my recent purchase of a weighted, 88-key keyboard, a large improvement over my old but trusty 49-key Roland.

It started with the idea of a repeated, c-minor, ascending, five note run. As they’re 1/16 notes, it takes 5 bars for the complete pattern to repeat, which makes for an interesting alignment issues in a normal 4/4, 4-bar phrase song, ie the bass-line and the run’s down-beats only meet up once every 20 bars. It makes it hard to quickly introduce new elements. The run also oscillates from left, to right, and back for every bar.

July 2005 Mix [Music, My Music]

Well, here’s a rare sight round these parts these days, a recent mix! I made this one over the 4th of July weekend. My technique certainly left quite a bit to be desired, as most every transition had something that could have been done better. But the tracks are pretty good (I’m detecting a theme).

It starts off with the very good Synchronicity, a great proggy trance track, makes a quick detour through techno, and then takes a, rather abrupt and poor, turn into proggy house. But as this is me of course, we end up in the trance vein. And if I could just highlight #5, good lord do I love that track! Oooo, and the bassline of #7, I waited over a year for that vinyl to get released. And #9 (First Aid) is totally sweet. Ok, I’ll stop now.
